Librarian Action Figure

Adventures in unemployment from a recent LIS grad

First day

Feeling a bit nervous for the first day on the job.

I was looking for a job, and then I found a job, and heaven knows I’m miserable now…

—The Smiths

I just got the word yesterday: I got a job with the Denver Public Library, as a Children’s Librarian! My lifelong ambition to produce children’s television just got one step closer. Special thanks to DJ Lance Rock, Pee Wee Herman, and Jim Henson

After I finished my latest job interview at Denver Public Library, I stopped by the DVD/Audio Book room to pick up some breezy scifi pulp on CD for an upcoming road trip I had scheduled (I chose a Dresden File book, just to see). As I was leaving I noticed that Fahrenheit 451 was playing on one of the video screens, and it was my favorite scene, no less. The burning lady choosing to die with her books…I get choked up every time. An auspicious sign, to be sure.
